Antique Diebold Vault Door

Item Description:

This door is in excellent condition and is in complete working order. The door was manufactured by Diebold Safe and Lock Company in approximately 1915 and installed around 1930 in the Park National Bank in Livingston MT. It was in daily operation at the bank until March 2020. All the exposed metal on the door is brushed stainless steel. The door locking mechanism consists of a Diebold three-keyed timer mounted to the inside of the door that may be custom set by the owner to limit hours of operation. On the outside there are two Diebold individual combination locks. The door may be set to open with just one combination or needing two. We have the current combinations along with the change key. The door, when pushed closed, is set into place by the large round lever, which brings the door into a snug fit within the doorframe. It is then locked by a large single lever. As seen from the pictures the door is strikingly bold with all the exposed mechanisms are convincingly secure.
The door itself weighs approximately 9,400 pounds and is about 38” wide 7’ high. When the door is opened the walk-through frame is 32” wide at its narrowest point and 6’6” tall. The size of the door in the frame with trim is 72” X 92” tall. The door, which hinges on dual roller bearing hinges, has a very massive feel although it is designed to open and close easily by a single person. Inside the door is another ornate gate door that opens with a single key. Also, along with the door is a 1930 O.B. McClintock co Vault Ventilator that was installed next to the door incase someone became trapped inside. The door and ventilator have provisions for alarms.

How the Door Arrives to You:
The door was professionally removed and crated in a manner that would allow any skilled contractor to install the door. I have detailed pictures and description of removal. The components shipped to you are shipped in 4 individual fully enclosed crates. The largest crate contains the doorframe. The doorframe crate weigh approximately 4,500 pounds. The door crate contains only the door, all the locking mechanisms, and the hinge. The door crate weighs approximately 9,500 pounds. The door crate, as with all three crates, is screwed together and bolted together in a manner to facilitate easy lifting and removal of the door. The door has a steel bracket mounted to the back to protect the door in shipping and installation. This third crate includes the glass door that covers the components on the back of the main door, the gate door, ( the gate door hinge needs repaired by any qualified welder) all of the interior stainless steel trim components and doorframe components all screws, bolts etc. removed during extraction. This crate is approximately 1,000 lbs. The fourth has the exterior stainless-steel trim. All the crates include labeling of components where necessary to allow for an easy installation. Detailed pictures and instructions of removal included. The 4 crates can be shipped to you by common carrier and we will assist you in locating the best possible shipping price. The crates are designed to be lifted with a large forklift or crane.

Installation:
The installation has been simplified by removing the door and its frame into two main components. The first component of installation is the doorframe itself. The doorframe is all heavy steel with some stainless-steel exposed pieces. The doorframe can stand up on its own in and is slid into the rough opening. The frame is 10 ½” deep with an 18” extension. The wall thickness where removed was 27”, however, a wall thickness of less is completely workable with modifications to removable extension plates. The doorframe, once erected in the rough opening, has four large adjusters to bind the doorframe into the opening with precise accuracy. (We only recovered 3 of these but one can easily be constructed.) Once the door is true in the rough opening, the interior flanges and angle iron are attached and the simplest way to permanently secure the frame into place is to fill the void around the frame with cement. The cement will permanently bind the doorframe into place. After installing the doorframe, the door is lifted off the pallet with straps (and may be hung into place with a large forklift or crane (9,400lbs). The bearing hinges currently attached to the door merely set in the hinge bearing seats, which are attached to the frame. The massive weight of the door is all that is necessary to keep the door on the frame. The metal bracket on the back can be removed and discarded. The glass door, bridge, gate door and trim complete the installation. All parts are marked and or bagged for easy identification.

Also included is the1930 O.B. McClintock co Vault Ventilator system which should be grouted into the wall next to the door and an outlet.
